Amazon Alexa will be Integrated into Future BMW

Earlier this week, the BMW Group revealed that all BMW models from mid-2018 forward will come with the highly versatile Amazon Alexa voice-controlled personal assistant already integrated, increasing available intelligent connectivity for the benefit of owners and their passengers.

BMW Connected for Alexa has been available for owners in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany since September of 2016, letting them use Alexa to check various statuses on their vehicle, as well as controlling their BMW through Remote Services. Alexa also makes it easy for owners to schedule routes and check appointments, departure times via the BMW Connected mobility agenda; now, with Alexa added to their car, owners gain access functions they previously only used at home.

One benefit of adding Alexa to the vehicle is that owners don't need to use their smartphone, since the vehicle comes with a built-in SIM card. Not only does this offer safe, instant online accessibility — it's also quite convenient, as Alexa can display relevant content on the BMW Display Screen.

In a press release, Dieter May, Senior Vice President Digital Services and Business Models at the BMW Group, remarked, "By making this step of integrating Alexa into our models from mid-2018, BMW and MINI will form a more intrinsic part of our customers’ digital lifestyles. Voice control first featured in BMW Group cars many years ago, and we are now enhancing its functionality by adding a digital ecosystem, which will open up all sorts of new possibilities that customers can access quickly, easily and safely from their car."
